Thanks for the info .. I will postpone including roughness for the moment since it seems quite complicated.

Re: Surface Roughness to ARL
Thanks .. I am running on pressure levels with ECMWF data. At the surface I just have
10-metre wind, 2-metre temperature, surface pressure. I also extract roughness but I
did not know how to use it. I dont have friction velocity and/or surface momentum flux.

Re: Surface Roughness to ARL
Thanks .. I will try making that modification to grib2arl.
After that do I need to change things to get hysplit to
read and use the new surface roughness ?

Surface Roughness to ARL
Hi,
I want to extract surface roughness data from ecmwf and use it with hysplit. I am using the
grib2arl converion program [with a few local changes]. I cannot find any mention of
roughness in the program [e.g. boundary layer has the code PBLH, precipitation
has the code TPP6 etc but I can't find ...

ECMWF switch to GRIB2
Hi,
ECMWF is increasing their number of levels in the next few months and the model level data will only be
available in GRIB2. Are there any plans to convert GRIB2ARL [and other conversion programs] to use
GRIB2 or will I just have to convert the ECMWF data to GRIB1 before using it.
Thanks

Here are details of the modifications I made to the AMPS2ARL tprogram to get it to work with
the Harmonie model ..

Re: Lambert Conformal Projection and grib2arl
Many thanks, I have got your program running with the harmonie data [on pressure levels] and I am now adding in rainfall. I will post a copy of the final program whan I have finished modifying it.

Re: Lambert Conformal Projection and grib2arl
I am trying to run hysplit using data from the harmonie model. This is
a model developed by the hirlam/aladin community. The version I am
using runs on a 2.5 Km grid centerred at arrrox. 54N 6W and
covering an area of about 1000Km x 1000Km. It uses the lambert
conformal projection.

Lambert Conformal Projection and grib2arl
Hi,
I am trying to run hysplit with data from the "harmonie" model .. the model runs on
a lambert conformal projection with [in my case] a grid spacing of 2.5km. It is a
limited area model used by the Hirlam/Aladin community.
When I run grib2arl it gives me the following values ..
